Aisha Steel

Introduction:

Aisha Steel Mills Limited (ASML), part of the Arif Habib Group, is one of Pakistan’s most advanced and trusted steel manufacturing companies. Specializing in flat rolled steel products — including Cold Rolled Steel Coils, Hot Dipped Galvanized Coils, Cut-to-Length, Slitting, and Trimming — Aisha Steel plays a crucial role in powering industries and infrastructure across the nation.

But beyond innovation and production, Aisha Steel believes in something even stronger — safety.

That’s where ArtxFilms came in: to create a series of safety awareness videos that would visually educate employees on best practices across various high-risk operations within the plant.

The Purpose:

Aisha Steel wanted to create a new way to communicate safety — not through lectures, but through visual learning.

Previously, whenever new employees were hired, the HR team had to individually explain safety rules and procedures.
To make the process more efficient and impact, Aisha Steel decided to produce comprehensive Do’s and Don’t videos that could be shown during new recruit orientations and training sessions.

These safety campaign videos were designed to help new team members understand:

  • How to work safely in industrial environments
  • How to protect themselves and their families by following proper procedures
  • How Aisha Steel maintains a safe and responsible work culture across every department.

The videos are now a permanent part of Aisha Steel’s internal safety and HR communication program — shown to every new hire before they begin work on-site.

The Challenge:

Safety training videos are not simple productions — they demand precision, timing, and extreme caution.

Aisha Steel tasked ArtxFilms with recording multiple operations, including:

  • Hot Work
  • Work at Height
  • Cleaning of Passivation Rollers
  • Forklift Operations
  • Slip Hazard & Grinding
  • Packing, Chemical Dosing, Gardening, and Acid Decanting

Many of these processes involved real risks — open flames, chemical exposure, moving machinery, and high elevations. Filming them meant our team had to work inside active production zones, where a single mistake could lead to serious consequences.

Every camera position, every shot angle, and every movement was planned with one priority — safety first.

The Experience:

During filming, there were moments that tested not just our technical skills but our courage.

Capturing hot work meant standing close to sparks and molten metal. Shooting chemical dosing and acid decanting required protective gear and strict coordination with safety officers. Recording grinding and forklift operations demanded precise timing and constant awareness.

Our cinematographers had to maintain balance — both literally and professionally — while managing heavy camera equipment in restricted zones.

But despite every challenge, our team stayed focused, calm, and alert. Every clip captured was real, not staged — showing the true working environment and the importance of following safety protocols.

Detailed Safety Modules (Do’s & Don’ts Covered in the Videos)

1. Hot Work

  • Obtain work permit or authorization letter before starting.
  • Conduct gas testing.
  • Wear face shield, gloves, and protective gear.
  • Keep an eye-wash tube nearby in case of irritation or accident.

2. Work at Height

  • Ensure all equipment and supports are fixed and stable.
  • Check the floor and surroundings before starting.
  • Use barricades to restrict access and prevent accidents.
  • Avoid crossing barricaded areas and choose safe routes.
  • Always wear safety shoes and helmets.

3. Cleaning of Passivation Rollers

  • Use respirators, safety helmets, gloves, and shoes.
  • Turn off the rolling process before cleaning.
  • Maintain safe distance and perform cleaning in reverse mode.

4. Forklift Operations

  • Avoid mobile phone use while driving.
  • Always wear a seatbelt and  maintain focus on blind spots.
  • Reduce speed at turn points and sound the horn.
  • Check for pedestrians before moving forward.
  • Never drive carelessly or distracted.

5. Slip Hazard

  • Avoid wet areas and follow all caution signs.
  • Always wear anti-slip safety shoes.

6. Grinding

  • Wear gloves, face shield, and full-sleeved clothing.
  • Ensure the equipment is properly fixed and tightened.
  • Verify safety guards are in place to prevent sparks or flames.

7. Packing

  • Wear cut-resistant gloves, safety helmet, and safety shoes.
  • Use full-sleeved clothing and follow all packing instructions.

8. Chemical Dosing

  • Wear complete chemical safety gear — suit, gloves, respirator, and safety shoes.
  • Before transferring chemicals from IBC tank or drum to dosing tank, ensure pipe clips are secure.
  • If the clip is missing, the pipe can detach, causing chemical spills or injuries.

9. Gardening

  • Wear safety shoes and full-sleeved clothes.
  • Check laces and equipment before starting to prevent tripping or accidents.

10. Acid Decanting

  • Wear full chemical protective suit, gloves, safety shoes, and respirator.
  • Exercise extreme caution — acid spillage can cause severe injuries.

Our Approach: Responsibility Through Realism

We approached this project with a simple but powerful belief — “Real stories create real impact.”

Instead of dramatizing, we chose to document genuine work practices — showing the “before” and “after” of each safety scenario. This visual storytelling helped employees understand not just what to do, but why it matters.
